Year 5 2020 - 2021

Welcome to the Year 5 page!

Year 5's Fantastic Historians!!

Take a look at these brilliant diary entries written by Ella and Ruby in Mr Chapman's class. Their task was to write a diary entry in the style of Anne Boleyn. The historical language, rich vocabulary and detailed writing is phenomenal!!!  Have a look for yourself!

Please take a look at the information and documents below for more information. We will regularly post updates and photos of what the pupils have been doing, so please come back and visit soon!

Useful information:

Our Topic this term is 'Star Gazers'. During this topic, we will be developing our understanding of the Solar System and the planets. Below you can find some useful resources to get you started!

During the first half of Spring term, P.E is on a Tuesday for 5C and Wednesday for 5G. It is important that the children bring the correct kit with them (see P.E. kit policy). All long hair needs to be tied back and all jewellery (including earrings) needs to be removed for safety. Thank you for your continued support during these difficult times.

Homework will be set every fortnight or if extra work is required. This could be set in a variety of forms including SeeSaw or paper work.

* Super Spelling scheme will continue this year. Children should practise their spellings at home and bring in their books every day ready for a test at least once a fortnight. Information can be found on the school website. The books will be provided to the children when the spelling assessments have been completed.

* Accelerated Reading will be continuing in Year 5.
Children must be reading for at least 20 minutes per day. Reading records should be brought into school each day and they will be monitored by class teachers. Books will be provided to the children after the Accelerated Reading assessments have been completed and reviewed.

* Children should also continue using TTRockstars on a daily basis. Class battles will be set up soon to motivate children to participate. However, we will no longer be completing TTRockstars at school so this will be an activity for children to only take part in at home. At Year 5, a fluent recall of Times Tables is crucial for the increasingly challenging multiplication and division objectives that we are covering, so please ensure children are still using TTRockstars as regularly as possible.

* Additional homework may also be given to enhance our current learning in class.
