Year 3 2020 - 2021

A very warm welcome from the staff and children from 3M and 3D!

Welcome Back to Year 3!smiley

We hope that you have had a good break and are raring to go this term.

We would also like to welcome Miss Cartwright to our team.

Here is some useful information about this half term, particularly the changes to our PE timetable...

Our topic this half term will be Gods and Mortals- focusing on the Ancient Greeks. We will be ;history detectives', discovering about myths and legends of the time as well as life during Ancient Greece. Our lessons will inter-weave with the myths and legends of the time!

3D will be having PE on a Wednesday afternoon and 3M will be having PE on a Monday morning. Please remember to wear your PE kit on the correct days.

  • White T-Shirt and black or navy shorts;
  • Additional sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms for outdoor PE (plain and preferably in darker colours).  Fulfen Hoodies are only for use in PE;
  • Trainers;
  • In extremely cold weather, extra layers such as under-layers, hats and gloves are permissible as long as the activity can be carried out safely in these;

Hair and Jewellery:

  • No jewellery (including fitness bands) should be worn for PE;
  • Earrings should be removed and not taped over;
  • Long hair must be tied back.

As of September, we are unable to provide snack for the majority of children. Please bring a healthy snack for breaktime. Remember, it must be nut free due to allergies. Please bring a water bottle every day.

Classroom equipment

Due to the recent crisis, we are asking you to leave pencil cases at home. Children will be provided with suitable equipment for their individual use.

Please check the reading and writing standards attachments to see what your child will be aiming to do during Year 3.

We now teach Power Maths, which is based around four characters the children can relate to.  During lessons, we have a whole-class discussion while we “Discover” a practical, real-life problem; then the children “Share” their ideas by exploring different methods; and, finally, the “Practise”, working independently in their books, which follow small steps of progression carefully designed to deepen learning.

Children are expected to:

  • Complete weekly maths and English homework which will be set on Seesaw;
  • Use TT Rockstars to practise their times tables;
  • Practise the letter-join handwriting;
  • Learn their Super-Spellings from their booklet and apply these in their handwriting;
  • Read their Accelerated Reader book and complete quizzes in school.
  • Additional, curriculum related homework may also be set as well as longer open-ended tasks/projects.

Extra -curricular clubs:

  • Children participating in extra-curricular sports clubs must change into PE kit and all regular rules apply to the clubs.
  • If personal protective equipment is required (e.g. gum shields for hockey), the member of staff will advise.

School opening times

School will be open from 8:30 to 8:55 for dropping pupils off. Year 3 children will enter the school across the KS2 Playground and through the 3D classroom door. They will come out at 3:10 through the 3D door to be collected on the KS2 playground.

Thank you,

The Year 3 team
