Year 6 Home Learning - Spring 2
In maths this half term, we are continuing to work on fractions, percentages and decimals. Click on the links below and work through each activity. You should aim to do one activity a day to keep those skills simmering! If you’ve completed all of these activities (or if you just want an extra challenge), then try out some of the problems in the ‘maths challenges’ document at the bottom of the page.

This term our English lessons are still centered around the video 'Rooted'. The link can be found here: Rooted Video
In school, we have:
- Planned plot points
- Wrote a setting description
- Introduced the main character (male tree)
- Created a suspenseful paragraph
- Changed in the atmosphere paragraph
You need to continue with the following:
- A paragraph to show the attempting and failure of getting together
- Write about the passing of time (using seasons to guide you through this)
- Create the problem - deep red mark
- Ending... :(
We will then be moving on to write a balanced argument with the title:
Should school uniform be removed from schools?
You need to do the following:
- find out the features of a balanced argument
- plan your ideas for keeping school uniform
- plan your ideas for removing school uniform
- Write an introduction to explain what you are writing about
- write a paragraph with your 'for' points
- write a paragraph with your 'against' points
- write a concluding paragraph.

This term our topic will continue to be Medicine through time. Below are some tasks to have a go at from home - your work can be submitted on Seesaw.
Prehistoric and Ancient medicine
What were the beliefs of Prehistoric people?
How did 'doctors' practice medicine?
Create a 'double page spread' about any research you conduct. Think about equipment, conditions, training and if practice was ethical.
Medieval and Early Modern medicine
Who influenced medieval and early modern medicine?
What impact did Da Vinci have on the advancements within medicine?
Create your own Da Vinci style sketch of humans.
Victorian and Modern medicine
Create a non-chronological report about Jenner, Pasteur, Fleming and any other significant figures.
Create an interactive timeline that shows medical advances and beliefs.
Don’t forget to read each day and complete a quiz on Accelerated Reader once you’re done. You can also work on your tables on TT Rockstars and perfect your handwriting using “Letterjoin”.
Times Tables – (Y2-6) TT RockStars – ideally spend 5-10 minutes a day practising tables;
You will have your reading book and should continue to read for 10-20 minutes a day. Once you have finished your book, you can log in to Accelerated Reader and take the test in the same way that you would in school.
