Year 1 Home Learning - Spring 2
In Spring term, we will be learning about shape. We will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes, recognising and describing shapes, comparing the number of sides and vertices.
Our English for the beginning of this term will be based upon the story of Paddington. We will be exploring; sentence writing, identifying and using adjectives, joining clauses using 'and', using different sentence openers and writing a letter. We are aiming for the children to be using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops consistently within our writing as well as beginning to use question and exclamation marks.
Near the end of term the children will also have the oppportunity to explore Spring poetry.
Our Science this half term is working scientifically. We will be carrying out a number of experiments including floating and sinking and insulation. The children will learn how to test their ideas, make predictions, ask questions and analyse their outcomes.
This half term in our Music lessons we are focusing on listening to a wide variety of musical pieces and learning to answer and ask questions based on their rhythm, use of instruments and style. Here is a useful lesson from BBC Bitesize to help support your child with this.
We are so excited to be teaching Art lessons this half term. The children will be exploring colour, mixing colours, drawing and painting. We will also link our Art lessons with our Geography unit and our English unit.
You will have your reading book and should continue to read for 10-20 minutes a day.
Your child can also access age-appropriate books here.
